A Community Choir in North Perth

Frequently Asked Questions

How long has this choir been around?

Joyful Voices was co-founded in September 2018 by conductor Todd Kasenberg of Atwood and pianist Michelle Kyle of Monkton. Here is a Listowel Banner news article with more information about how the choir started.

Can I participate in just the fall term, or just the winter term?

Our season runs from September to early May, and we prefer the stability of people participating in both terms. However, you can participate in only one term.

What are attendance expectations?

It is okay to miss a few rehearsals. Our attendance policy is that members need to attend, at a minimum, half of the rehearsals for a concert. People who need to miss more than half the rehearsals may be eligible to participate, on a case-by-case basis. If you need to miss some rehearsals, talk to us about it. Even if you need to miss a main concert, you can still be a member of the choir, as part of our purpose is to build community through music.

How often does the choir perform?

We have one main concert each term, and may also do free community performances in the last few weeks before each main concert. In our first season, we did four community performances each term.

What do singers wear for concerts?

Choir members wear black for our main concerts, with matching scarves for women and poufs for men in four colours. For our free concerts, singers wear black bottoms, and tops in solid colours. Winter colours are red, blue, green, and purple. Spring colours are yellow, orange, light green, and purple.
